Oman سلطنة عمان

Ever since I visited Oman, I can’t get the place out of my head. Oman was like no other place I had ever ventured to. The country’s diverse, stunning landscapes, bright sunshine matched by the warmth and hospitality of its people truly captivated me. Perhaps the best way to explore this Middle Eastern country is by taking a road trip. The roads are impeccably maintained, and the sparse traffic makes for a stress-free driving adventure!

As is the case with most travel, how much time one can spend is limited, either by time or by the destination’s own rules. While two weeks would be a good amount of time to see the best that Oman has to offer, we had one week, so we created a one week itinerary to see a selection of places in this amazing country.

Our itinerary began and ended in Oman’s capital, Muscat.  From there, our route ran along the coast of the Gulf of Oman,  to the city of Sur.  From there, we headed inland across the mountains and into the desert landscape, dotted here and there by oases, known as “wadis”.  We camped in the desert, an area called the Wahiba Sands (more on that experience later). Trekking onward we visited Nizwa, and Misfah.  Our route paralleled a mountain range and then back into the coastal area, and ending back in Muscat.

With more time, it would be worth it to drive further south to Salalah.  …

One week Oman road trip.
